Do or Do Not: Removing Negative Reviews

First published: September 21, 2022 @ 6:00 pm

Negative reviews of a product can have a negative impact on sales.

In order to combat this, many companies and individuals will do anything they can to remove the negative reviews.

They might bribe the reviewers or send them threats, or they might even sue the reviewers.

While this is something that you should never do (unless you’re under attack by a terrorist organization), it shows how desperate some companies are to remove negative reviews.

Instead of removing them, you should be able to turn them into positive reviews. Contact the buyers’ private email addresses (if possible) and ask them for customer feedbacks.

This way, you’ll be able to improve your product and your customer experience at the same time.

However, sometimes bad reviews are necessary to be removed. Let’s look at the three types of reviews you can (and should) remove.

1. Irrelevant Review

The review is about something that doesn’t apply to your product. For example, if someone writes a review about your competitors on your product page.

This is a case where you can remove the review, without harming your business.

2. Vulgar or Inappropriate Reviews

Some people are extremely rude. Some people even say the most disgusting things you can imagine.

If a customer leaves a review that contains vulgar language, or even hate speech, we can consider it as harassment.

Therefore, if someone leaves the review in question, remove it. This is also an easy way to improve your product’s quality.

3. Reviews with False Statements

Some people leave negative reviews because they are just making false statements.

If you look at the misleading reviews, you’ll notice that there are some people who leave the most ridiculous reviews.

For example, they complain about your products’ ingredients to be harmful, when in fact, the ingredients are fine.

Besides removing these kinds of reviews, you can also sue them for defamation.

Fake review are not only harmful to the businesses but also their consumers. You should avoid these kinds of reviews at all costs.

Negative Product Reviews are Common

There will always be unhappy customers with negative experience. However, a negative review does not mean that the business is not doing well.

The purpose of a negative review is to let you know what you can improve on, so that you can grow and maintain your business in the future.

In this article, we’ve discussed three situations where it’s okay to remove bad reviews.

These are irrelevant customer reviews, reviews with vulgar or rude languages, and reviews with false statements.

As you can see, business owners can remove these kinds of reviews without harming their business.

It will help you improve your product and your potential customer experience at the same time.
